Mother's Day for Mom - 1999

by Lynetta Simpson

Mother's Day is a day to celebrate mothers and so I thought I would take the time to write about how much you mean to me and how much your love and support over the years has meant to me.

Thank you for being my advocate when I was younger and having my learning disabilities, for helping me get the best help possible. And also for believing in me and my ability to do whatever I wanted and not let my problem stop me.

Thank you for reading bedtime stories to us until you were hoarse. And for tucking me in at night and making me feel safe.

Thank you for making sure that we were close when I was a teenager and for keeping that relationship going to this day.

Thank you for instilling in me the values that I have now regarding life, love, work, and relationships.

Thank you for supporting me in my decision to pursue my higher education and the choices that I made with regard to going away for a year then allowing me to come back home.

Thank you for listening to me and my problems and growing pains in my relationship with Hoi and for offering me a place to live when I was ready to end that relationship.

Thank you for allowing me to continue to live with you when I got involved with Michael and for supporting me in my decision to move in with him.

I know that who I am today and the choices that I have made in life are due to your love and support of me, from when I was a little girl and you rubbed my face to help me sleep, to being loving and understanding when I make a "bad" decision now and then. And for this, I will always be grateful. I look forward to the years ahead when you are there to see me finally graduate college, when you are helping me plan my wedding, and when you are a grandmother to my children.

I will always be your "little Lynetta".
