Number One Daughter

The phone would ring, bringing good news.

"Hi, Dad. This is your number one daughter."

Real fast. She talked real fast, matter of fact, no beans about it.

"I'm coming down."

We were always so very glad and looked forward to her being with us. She was going to come this weekend and celebrate her and Stan's birthdays. She was going to bring a cake, as she did last year.

She brought so much joy and life when she came, and really lifted our spirits.

When she came in the house, it was always, "Hi, Mom! Hi, Dad!" She would often call from her cell phone or from Concord, about an hour from our home.

She was always bringing things. Her last visit was at Christmas 2000. She came in with her arms full and the most special thing that she brought was a large white teddy bear with black ears and black nose, for Stanley. The card said Stanley was her Teddy Bear.

This embodied her generous and exuberant gift of love and caring for everyone around her.

Even as a little child she ran joyfully and happily everywhere with her curls bouncing, greeting everyone with enthusiasm.

As she grew into womanhood, she sought to grow in many ways, and to become knowledgeable and spiritually strong. This included immersing herself into the church and all its spiritual aspects, and then to live out what she learned, to make life better for others.

I am sure all of her family, friends, and acquaintances would confirm the very spiritually mature woman she had become.

It is tragic her goals and aspirations were cut short, but we do know great good will come out of it somehow.

In our hearts she will always be alive and happy and we know we will see her again in an even more joyful state.

So this is not goodbye, but -- until we meet again.

With much love, from your Mom
