The Shop

Nate built a terrific garage next to his house last year. Here's what it looks like from the outside.

Note the gray Cobra body lurking on its way cool body buck, just to the right of the garage.

And here's a shot of Nate's house.

The upper part of the garage is just visible to the right, through the trees.

Here's Nate's family, who lives in the house. Nellie has heroically agreed to allow us to undertake this project in her garage.

Amos is sitting on the couch at the left, while Nellie and Cale work on a computer program about bugs.

On the wall over Amos' head is one of Nellie's amazing and beautiful quilts, under construction.

You can read more about Nellie and the boys here.

This spring Nate built workbenches and shelves inside the garage to create a shop for Cobra-building.

To help round out the shop's equipment, we went to my house and picked up some of the tools I used to build my airplane. We figured the same tools would be handy building the Cobra.

Here's a shot of the pile of my tools just after they arrived in Nate's garage. That's my compressor in the foreground, and the Cobra frame on the right.

Nellie's Subaru is to the left. Nate's car has been banished to the driveway to make way for the Cobra, but Nellie said that if we tried to use up her half of the garage with Cobra stuff too, we could just turn around and take that Cobra back where it came from!

You can see another view of the tools as they arrived on the next page.
